Ignacio Peña
The type of artists that really capture your attention with their artistic merit and brilliant execution of musicianship are very, very few and far between. Ignacio Peña is one of those rare gems.
This Puerto Rican rocker is no stranger to the industry at all though, and is completely multifaceted from writing, recording, performing, producing, directing, media creation and more. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Peña rose to fame in the Latin market with the release of his debut album “El Mundo al Revés” in 2000 and the subsequent tour which saw him perform festivals in Argentina, Venezuela, Panama and the United States. Peña‘s albums have garnered critical acclaim and are considered by many to be some of the best rock music to come out in Spanish.
From 2015 through 2017, Ignacio Peña has been nominated for five NATAS Suncoast Chapter Emmy Awards, winning two for the WIPR-TV Short Subject documentaries “Por Qué Conmemoramos” (Why We Commemorate) and “Soy De Una Raza Pura” (I Am From A Pure Race) respectively. Now fully loaded with his next collection of rock anthems, his newest album creation Songs For The Fall Of An Empire is one that delivers a concept about the history of debt, and really delves deep into telling a story effectively. With two singles accompanied by music videos for each, the visual aspect adds unwavering power, depth and anticipation as these songs truly keep you at the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The first single/music video for “The Same Replies” is an explosive introduction to what this album is about, as well as how the music resonates with it. With an eye-catching intro that locks you into pure anticipation, this move-trailer-like intro to the song is masterful, mind bending and astonishing all on its own as the perfect powerful entrance into a song. With ambient guitar leads, melodic chord projections and soaring harmony-driven vocals, this track hits you in ways you’d never think possible.
Shifting from Ignacio Peña and his band members to the song’s visual concept is what makes this video one of the highest-energy experiences you could ask for. Every verse has incredible pacing with thought-provoking, intelligent lyrics with a dynamic rhythm section driving the song forward and smashing its way into a chorus that is melodic, catchy and suitable to any rock listener that appreciates an unforgettable chorus. The dark elements of the song really carries the weight of the song’s concept as well, and the production value couldn’t be better. This is a song and video that will stay with you even after it’s over. It’s one you have to see to believe.
Bridging over to the second single/video on the album, we get a thrust of heavy ambiance with the song “Sound The Alarm” which carries over from the previous track as continuity of the same concept the album has been centralizing. From strong yet subtle verses that continue to tell a very political and supercharged story that gets the listener to pay extra close attention, we get one of the biggest buildups in anticipation before this song’s extremely in-your-face and most highlighted chorus yet.
From ascension to attention, the energy really flies high and is definitely one of the best written rock choruses of this caliber you could come by. With heavy-gain guitars and rhythmic riffs that drive with a force along with a pounding rhythm section, this climactic track is definitely gonna be one of your favorites of the album, and really puts the defining factors of the song right into the forefront where it’s most effective as a whole.
“Sound The Alarm” releases on September 17th, and is definitely gonna set the bar high for concept rock albums altogether, as well as videos. A new song from Songs For The Fall Of An Empire will be unleashing every three weeks until the album release date of December 10th. Mark your calendars for this masterpiece!
